About Maz Jobrani
Jobrani was born in Tehran, Iran, but he and his family moved to California when he was six years old. Jobrani was raised
in the Tiburon area of the San Francisco Bay, and he attended Redwood High School in Larkspur. Jobrani went on to study political
science and Italian at UC Berkeley. Before deciding to pursue his dream of becoming an actor and comedian, Jobrani was enrolled
in a PhD program at UCLA.
Maz Jobrani went on to create the Axis of Evil Comedy Tour, which features Jobrani and three
other Middle Eastern comedians and special guest comedians. The name pokes fun at U.S. President George W. Bush's speech,
which designated Iraq, Iran, and North Korea as the "Axis of Evil." The group started touring in 2005, and the themes of their
jokes are centered around being of Middle Eastern descent while living in America. The group has been featured on CNN, NPR,
and Time, and King Abdullah II of Jordan even attended one of their shows in Jordan. They were also given their own special
on Comedy Central. Jobrani has two additional comedy specials on Showtime, called "I Come In Peace" and "Brown and Friendly."
addition to his work as a comedian, Maz Jobrani has also starred in the films Friday after Next, 13 Going on 30, and The Interpreter.
He was also featured on the Knights of Prosperity, Life on a Stick, Better Off Ted, Curb Your Enthusiasm, 24, ER, NYPD Blue,
Traffic Light, Man Up, Men at Work, and Whitney. Since his arrival on the comedy scene, Jobrani has also made appearances
on The Colbert Report, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, and the Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson.
Coupled with his
acting and comedy experience, Maz Jobrani is a formidable talent who has also dabbled in screenwriting. He recently finished
up the indie production Jimmy Vestvood: Amerikan Hero, which follows the whimsical story of a wannabe private investigator
who moves to America to pursue his dream, only to find himself caught up in a conspiracy to start the next world war. Jobrani
raised over $100,000 for the indie film on indiegogo.com, with the intention of finally creating a movie where the hero is
Middle Eastern. In the film, the protagonist wants desperately to assimilate into American culture, so he changes his name
from Jamshid Fakhredinpour to Jimmy Vestvood. After being set up by a politician, Jimmy must clear himself of the false charges
and in the process, try to avert a new war brewing in the Middle East, all while having a $10 million bounty on his head.
sets Maz Jobrani apart from other competitors is his ability to bring people together on the common thread of humor. In a
post 9/11 world, it might be hard to think that an Iran-born comedian could rise to the level of fame that Jobrani has, but
through his creative pairing of humor with political insight, this multi-talented performer keeps his audiences crying with
laughter with his smartly crafted jokes. He and his Axis of Evil Comedy group have been a hit abroad as well, selling out
27 shows in the Middle East and attracting the attention of Jordan's leader.
Maz Jobrani's Breakthrough
