McCarthey Athletic Center History
Located in Spokane, Washington, McCarthey Athletic Center has been bringing one
great game to the court after another since it first opened up to the community in 2004. Even though it hasn't been around
all that long, it has become nothing short of a staple of the local community thanks to the wide variety of events that it
offers, from basketball and concerts to plenty of other events that come through looking to entertain the masses. McCarthey
Athletic Center is the home court of the Gonzaga Bulldogs (men's and women's), which means that you can always catch some
of the most talented players in the country as they come through town looking to put on a show.
Breaking ground in 2003
and opened in 2004, McCarthey Athletic Center regularly brings plenty of intense basketball games to the local community as
the home venue for Gonzaga University, in addition to being one of the beacons for top-tier concerts in the area as well.
Exciting acts like Bill Cosby, Death Cab for Cutie and Jeff Foxworthy are just a few of the big names that have come through
town, and you never know who is going to show up next. Once you're there in the stands watching your Bulldogs do their thing
on the hardwood, you'll be glad that you're not anywhere else, as there is nothing quite like the atmosphere of a big home
game featuring your favorite team.
McCarthey Athletic Center Events/Teams
When the Bulldogs are locked
in a heated battle with a top-tier opponent, there is nothing close to the feeling of being in the stands with your fellow
fans, though that's not something you're going to learn sitting on your couch. Come out and see all the action the way it
was meant to be seen as the Bulldogs look to dominate their conference opponents and make a big move up the standings.
while the men's team often gets much of the press, there's also plenty of excitement about the women's team as well, and that's
because they always have an explosive roster loaded with some of the best players in the game. There are so many big matchups
on the schedule, you'll have plenty of opportunities each and every season to join in the heart-pounding action.
Close to the border between Washington and Idaho, Spokane is often known for being the home for the Gonzaga
Bulldogs, a team that always tends to be near the top of the standings in the ultra-competitive West Coast Conference. Though
it was founded in 1871, Spokane actually had people settle in it at least 8,000 years previously, and you'll understand why
if you get out and see its natural advantages and beauty. Spokane quickly became a major trading post as the burgeoning U.S.
was developing following the Civil War in the 19th century, and these days it remains a major stop on the way out to the Pacific
Ocean. As many might even remember, Spokane was even a stopover on the classic computer game Oregon Trail.
though it has a rich and interesting history, Spokane also has an energetic entertainment and sports scene, with Gonzaga University
leading the way. These days, even though Seattle gets much of the credit for cities in Washington, Spokane is one of those
places you don't want to skip.
