The original Menudo lineup was formed in the 70s, with their first album being released in 1977. The Puerto Rican quintet became an instant hit locally, even getting their own television show. In the 80s, they made a hit in the United States with their album Quiero Ser. They went on to score many other hits throughout the 80s. As each member reached the age of 16, his voice changed, or he grew too tall, he was forced out and replaced by a new member.

Though they stayed popular in Central and South America for many years after their intial American success, they’re popularity waned in the states until 2007, when a new quintet was found. The members now stay in the band until the age of 20, and the new members are Carlos, Chris, Jose, Monti and Emmanuel.
