The Merion Golf Club dates from 1896, when members of the Merion Cricket Club (founded in 1865) opened a golf course in Haverford, Pennsylvania. In 1910, the membership decided to build a new course and chose 32-year-old club member Hugh Wilson to design it. Wilson's design was inspired by Scottish and British courses, for example, Merion's distinctive Scottish-style bunkers, ("the white faces of Merion") and use of wicker baskets to mark pins instead of flags on the East Course. While Wilson's layout covers only 126 acres of land, golfer Jack Nicklaus has said of Merion East, "Acre for acre, it may be the best test of golf in the world." In 2005, the Merion Golf Course was ranked seventh in Golf Digest's "America's 100 Greatest Golf Courses." Come see for yourself why players keep coming back to this magnificent course. Merion Golf Club Sports Tickets

Come witness golf history in the making with sports tickets to see a golf competition at the Merion Golf Club. This prestigious course has been home to many golf "firsts." The first USGA men's tournament held at the East Course was the 1916 U.S. Amateur, won by Chick Evans. This was also the first time Bobby Jones appeared in a national championship; he was 14 years old. Jones would win his first U.S. Amateur in 1924, also held at Merion. In 1930, Jones returned to Merion in late September. Earlier that year, Bobby Jones had won the British Amateur, British Open, and U.S. Open. Nearly 20,000 golf fans gathered to witness Jones sweep all four of the major championships at the young age of 28. Then in 1950, Merion's U.S. Open was the site of Ben Hogan's comeback, 16 months after a head-on collision with a bus, which shattered his pelvis and nearly killed him, and you can see the course in these now iconic photos of his victory. Most recently, after successfully hosting the 2005 U.S. Amateur, the USGA awarded the 2013 U.S. Open to Merion. So what are you waiting for? Score your 2013 U.S. Open tickets today at StubHub!
