As far as unpronounceable band names go, MGMT’s isn’t too bad: The were originally named “the Management” before shortening it to just four letters. But odd name or not, the band’s music has been attracting a steady following in the wake of electro in the early ‘00s. Their debut album, “Oracular Spectacular,” has been a huge seller.

The band has a unique sound, blending indie rock with electronic elements like synthesizers. With distorted effects and heavy beats, they’ve drawn a major following. They started in 2002 in Middletown, Connecticut. They toured extensively, most notably with Of Montreal. Before long, their concert tickets were selling out.
