The 2014 college football season is in full swing and the action so far this season is not for the faint of heart. Upsets and surprises have occurred all over the country and there are sure to be many more in store. In Oxford, Ohio, the Miami University Redhawks and their fans are in the midst of a tough season, but the Redhawks have been incredibly competitive in all of their games. Despite only winning one game so far this season, their offense has been brilliant, ranking as the 22nd team in all of college football in passing, with senior Redhawks quarterback Andrew Hendrix enjoying an incredible season so far. There is a lot of football left to play this season and the Redhawks are working hard to turn this season around under first year head coach Chuck Martin.

Looking ahead at the remainder of the Redhawks schedule in 2014, the November 1 matchup with the Western Michigan Broncos at Yager Stadium definitely stands out. The Broncos have an impressive offense that is in the Top 50 in all of college football in passing, rushing and points scored. The Broncos are led by quarterback Zach Terrell and true freshman phenomena running back Jarvion Franklin, who already has an amazing 15 rushing touchdowns this season, and the Broncos will be a force to be reckoned with. The Redhawks know that they will have their hands full with Franklin and company, but they are confident that they are one huge win from righting their ship. The very last home game of the season for the Redhawks comes on November 25 when the Ohio Bobcats come to Oxford to take on their in state rivals at Yager Stadium. Known as the Battle of the Bricks, the Redhawks-Bobcats rivalry in huge in the state of Ohio, with the two teams having met 90 times since 1908. These Mid-American Conference foes always fight each other hard and the fans of both sides pack the stands, no matter where the clash is being held. This year, the Battle of the Bricks takes place at Yager Stadium in Oxford, Ohio and college football fans better be ready for a dog fight because their records don't matter when these two teams square off.

The Mid-American Conference, known as the MAC, was formed in 1946, comprised of teams from the Great Lakes region of the country. Though the roster of schools has changed over the years, the quality of the programs has never wavered. The MAC has earned the respect of college football pundits and fans alike in recent years, as many of its teams have played very well on the major stage of big time bowl games. 2012 was a banner year for the Mid-American Conference, with a conference record 7 teams earning bowl game berths. Since the program was founded in Oxford, Ohio in 1888, the Miami Redhawks have won 22 conference titles and 6 division titles. The program has been so influential on the college football landscape, in fact, that it has been nicknamed the "Cradle of Coaches" because of the caliber of coaches that the Miami Redhawks program has produced. Names like Bo Schembechler, who went on to glory at the University of Michigan, Sean Payton, who won a Super Bowl title with the New Orleans Saints in the NFL, John Harbaugh. Super Bowl winning coach of the Baltimore Ravens, Jim Tressel of Ohio State,Ara Parseghian, beloved coach of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, John Pont, the legendary coach of Indiana University and Earl Blaik, who led the Army Black Knights to three consecutive National Championships in the 1940's, all have their coaching roots in Oxford, Ohio. Many great NFL players have also donned the red and white, especially two time Super Bowl Champion quarterback Ben Roethlisberger of the Pittsburgh Steelers. In 2014, the Redhawks are still working on putting all of the pieces together, but with the talent of their strong armed quarterback Andrew Hendrix and talented wide receiver David Frazier, don't count the Redhawks out.
