Grammy-winning singer Michael Steven Buble was born in Burnaby, British Columbia. While Buble's father
was out to sea much of his childhood, he depended on his mother and grandfather to raise him and his two younger sisters.
His grandfather, Demetrio Santanga, owned a tremendous record collection that sparked Buble's passion for soul music and classic
jazz. Musical greats like Frank Sinatra, Stevie Wonder, Tony Bennett and Ella Fitzgerald inspired Buble to follow suit.
grandfather encouraged Buble to participate in a local contest, which he won. At the time Buble was only 17, and he was eventually
disqualified for not being 18. However, the organizer of the contest, Beverly Delich, was impressed with Buble's talents and
recommended that he enter the British Columbia Youth Talent Search. Buble took her advice and entered and won.
was only just the beginning for Buble. His success motivated Delich in helping him to record his initial independent CD.
1996, Buble scored a role as Elvis in the musical the Red Rock Diner in Vancouver, and two years later he relocated to Toronto
to participate in Forever Swing, a big band musical revue.
But Buble's big break happened when he performed in front
of a former advisor to the Canadian Prime Minister, Michael McSweeney. McSweeney was so taken by Buble's performance that
he distributed the singer's independent album. It wasn't long before the album landed in the hands of Prime Minister Brian
Mulroney and his spouse. In 2000, the couple extended an invitation to Buble to perform at their daughter's wedding. He was
a hit at the wedding and captivated wedding guests with his version of Mack The Knife.
During the wedding celebration,
Buble got the chance to meet Grammy-winning producer and Warner Bros. music executive David Foster. This key introduction
led to a record contract the following year. Buble inked a deal with the 143 Records label. Buble and Foster went straight
to work on Buble's debut major release, which came out in 2003.
The eponymous record was a global success. It landed
at No. 1 in Australia and claimed multi-platinum status in several other countries. It additionally slid into the Top 10 in
Canada and the UK.
His debut album illuminated Buble's talents, especially his propensity for putting a pop spin on
classics like Moondance and How Can You Mend A Broken Heart? The album release was followed up with a global tour, and Buble
ended 2003 on a high note with a holiday disc, Let It Snow.
Buble went on to crank out several more popular albums and
