Michelle Shocked is a famed singer/songwriter from Texas who first made a name for herself as a political activist and
musician during the 1980s. Shocked uses her Texas upbringing and strong will to take form as a political activist to guide
the feel of her music, and you can see this absolutely original act in concert when you get Michelle
Shocked tickets to an upcoming gig!
Michelle Shocked was born in 1962 in Dallas, Texas as Michelle Johnston. She dropped out of the University of Texas and
moved to San Francisco, where she discovered the punk life the city had to offer. Upon moving back to Texas, Shocked's mother
had her committed to a mental hospital. The songstress was released and while she was helping at the Kerrville Folk Festival
she was recorded singing around the campfire, with those recording starting her career in the music industry.
As part of the anti-folk scene, Michelle Shocked has been a staple in the music industry since the 1980s, punching out
hits like "Anchorage" and "If Love Was a Train" while continuing to gain fame with the urban folk rising.
