Michigan State Spartans Basketball Schedule

Far and away one of the most successful and feared college basketball programs in the country, fans, players, and coaches alike have come to expect nothing short of greatness from the Michigan State Spartans on the hardwood. Each season, as the college basketball season heats up there is arguably no better place to be than at Jack Breslin Student Events Center, the East Lansing, Michigan home of the Michigan State Spartans. Year after year the Spartans recruit some of the best talent in the country to come play ball and this year is no exception. Basketball is a huge deal throughout Michigan and a Spartans home game is an experience like no other. The Spartans are still smarting from an Elite Eight loss to eventual champions Connecticut and will be looking to once again make it back to the Final Four. Losing players like Adreian Payne, Keith Appling and Gary Harris is not easy but with one of the best basketball coaches of all time in Tom Izzo and key recruits like Gavin Schilling and Alvin Ellis joining the squad the future remains bright for Michigan State. Be there from the start as the Spartans look to pile up wins and make big moves up the Big 10 standings on their way to a return to the NCAA Tournament and possibly yet another National Championship.

In recent years the Big Ten has proven to be one of the best conferences in college basketball and the addition of Maryland and Rutgers to the conference will only make the conference even deeper. Michigan State will have its hands full battling their way through a tough Big Ten schedule but there can be little doubt that they will be up to the task. One of the toughest match ups of the season will be when the Spartans take on the Wisconsin Badgers who are fresh off a Final Four appearance and will be returning several key players in the 2014-2015 season. This is a game that will undoubtedly have a huge impact on national rankings, NCAA Tournament seeding, and of course the Big Ten standings and one that no Spartans fan will want to miss. Of course it is always a big event when in-state rivals the Michigan Wolverines come to Jack Breslin Student Events Center and records can just be tossed out the window when the two rivals battle it out against one another. Big things are once again in store for the Michigan State Spartans as the 2014-2015 college basketball season gets underway and you can be there right from the start with tickets from StubHub.

Michigan State Spartans Basketball Conference

While the Big 10 has long been known for its college football, basketball has always been a big deal in the conference as well and in recent years several schools have stepped up their game making it extremely difficult for a team to navigate the tough conference schedule. Perennial powerhouses Indiana and Michigan State always are staunch competition and with the recent development of programs like Michigan and Illinois, the conference is only getting tougher. Altogether the Big 10 has won ten National Championships with Indiana leading the way with five. Every year since 1978 the Big 10 has been the conference with the highest attendance in all of college basketball. Playing such a tough regular season schedule annually leaves the teams from the Big 10 who are selected for the Tournament ready to take on any college in the country and allows for even some of the lower seeds to pull off big time upsets. When it comes to college sports there is arguably no conference that is historically better or more dominant than the Big 10.

Michigan State Spartans Basketball Rivalries

As a longtime member of the Big 10, Michigan State has developed intense rivalries with nearly every school in the conference. These are teams that face off against one another at least twice a year and strong held grudges do not go away easily. Indiana as well as Ohio State and Wisconsin are always formidable opponents that Michigan State would be more than happy to take down a peg. The rivalry with Michigan is one of the best in all of college basketball, especially now that Michigan has made a return to prominence and the two schools are competing for championships against one another. The Big 10 is loaded with top tier college basketball match ups and you really can't go wrong with seeing any in conference game.

The Experience

College basketball is an experience like no other. Featuring some of the best student athletes in the world along with some of the most passionate fans in all of sports, the games have an atmosphere that is unrivaled. When you set foot into Jack Breslin Student Events Center for a Michigan State Spartans home basketball game this will all be clear. As the teams set up for opening tip off the fans stand up and vociferously cheer for their alma mater and hometown favorites. The game continues full of back and forth action, big time shots, and clutch defensive stops. Before you know it the clock is winding down in the second half and the two sides are wrapped up in yet another tight contest. Your palms get sweaty with each trip down the floor and each time a player from your favorite team lets loose a shot you hold your breath until the ball tickles the twine. This continues until the final buzzer when the Spartans' side erupts after another big win and their fans flow out of the arena in jubilation.

Trivia

In 1979 Michigan State came out of one of the most well known games in college basketball history as the National Champions. Led by Magic Johnson the Spartans took on Larry Bird's Indiana State team for the championship game. The friendly rivalry that began between those two superstars on that day would continue in the NBA as Johnson played for the Lakers and Bird for the Celtics and they would again battle each other for championships as professionals. Current Michigan State coach Tom Izzo has restored greatness to the school and is now in his 18th year with the program.
