About the Artist
Miguel was born Miguel Jontel Pimentel in Sand Pedro, California. Although
his parents divorced when he was a young boy, he maintained a relationship with both of his parents who introduced him to
different styles of music. Miguel drew inspiration from his mother's R&B records and his father's funk, jazz, hip hop
and classic rock musical tastes. This musical influence inspired the budding musician to begin pursuing a career in the business
at the age of 13. He was 14 when he began writing his own songs and creating his own tracks on a four-track recorder his borrowed
from his uncle.
While still in high school, the young musician was introduced to a production company called Drop Squad.
He spent the rest of his high school years honing his skills as a producer and seeking a record deal. After years of struggling
to be heard, he finally caught the attention of Black Ice records and began working on his first album, Young & Free.
The company released one single and a music video, but Miguel wasn't satisfied with where his image and music were headed.
So, he left the company in search of another opportunity. He finally found that opportunity in 2007 with Jive Records who
offered him a recording contract. But due to issues with Black Ice, his debut album wasn't released for several years. However,
Miguel didn't sit around waiting for his 15 minutes of fame. He contributed to several albums by other artists including Usher,
Asher Roth and Musiq Soulchild.
His first album, All I Want Is You, was finally released in 2010 and was an instant
hit. It debuted at No. 109 on the Billboard 200 chart and sold more than 11,000 copies in its first few weeks. The initial
success of the album helped the singer land a spot as a supporting act for Trey Songz and Usher on their highly-anticipated
tour. His album spawned several hit singles including "Sure Thing" and "Quickie."
Today, Miguel is riding the wave of
notoriety straight to the top. He has become a household name in the R&B and Hip Hop worlds and continues to surprise
