Born in Brooklyn, New York, Mike Tyson was often the target of bullying as a child because of his shyness and size. To
deal with the bullying, he turned to boxing and eventually was taught the art by Bob Stewart. Stewart would go on to introduce
Tyson to Constantine "Cus" D'Amato, legendary boxing manager, who immediately recognized Tyson's potential as a heavyweight
contender and quickly became Tyson's mentor. D'Amato took Tyson under his wing, and when Tyson was 14 years old, he entered
a full-time custody arrangement with D'Amato. Tyson followed a strict training schedule, spending days at Catskill High School
and nights training in the ring. Tyson was also entered into amateur boxing matches and non-sanctioned fights to teach Tyson
how to handle older opponents. This was only the beginning of what would become a very successful and turbulent boxing career
for Tyson. Later on, he claimed 26 victories of his first 28 fights by knockout or technical knockout. He was inducted into
the International Boxing Hall of Fame and World Boxing Hall of Fame. He is still one of the most feared men ever to wear the
heavyweight crown.
