Now a premier, touring stock car race, ASA Racing actually has its roots in a message board thread in 2002. The whole idea was to create an affordable race that aficionados could participate in using late model crate engines. Surprisingly, the conversation became more than just talk. Racers began to meet yearly, and support for the race soon grew.

The race was briefly purchased by The American Speed Association, but by the end of 2004, the struggling ASA decided it would be best to separate itself from the race.
