The Minnesota Timberwolves in 2013-14

The Minnesota Timberwolves are fighting for a playoff spot in the Western Conference, but it's going to be an uphill battle down the stretch. The Timberwolves have a lot of talent on their roster this season, and it looked like they could reach the postseason for the first time in years when the season began. The Wolves have had trouble amassing a winning season since the departure of Kevin Garnett from the organization, but with Kevin Love leading the charge in 2013-14, they appear to have the best Wolves team in the post-Garnett era. Love is one of the best players in the NBA, boasting an old-school, skill-driven game that fans don't get to see on a regular basis anymore. Love and the rest of the Minnesota players are often set up to score by electric point guard Ricky Rubio. Rubio is one of the most dynamic passers in the league, making highlight plays on a nightly basis. However, outside of these two players the Wolves have struggled to get consistent production, and in the competitive Western Conference they need some serious firepower.

The Western Conference is stacked with top teams, and the Wolves have struggled to pull out close games against the best of the West this season. The Oklahoma City Thunder, San Antonio Spurs and other clubs are better-equipped to make a title run than the Wolves right now, and Minnesota is going to have to elevate their level of play to earn a spot in the postseason. When the Wolves do reach the postseason, make sure to catch a home game in person.

Being there in person to see the action unfold live is the best way to experience NBA basketball, and you can see that for yourself when the stakes arte highest, in the postseason. Make sure to have the NBA experience of a lifetime the next time the opportunity arises.

Minnesota Timberwolves Trivia

What country does Minnesota Timberwolves point guard Ricky Rubio hail from?

The answer is the country of Spain. Rubio became a teenage sensation on the pro basketball scene overseas, attracting attention from NBA teams at a very young age. The Timberwolves elected Rubio with the fifth pick in the 2009 NBA Draft. However, former Minnesota general manager David Kahn used the following pick to select another point guard, Syracuse product Johnny Flynn. Rubio was irked by this move and did not come over to play for the Wolves for a couple of seasons as a result. Flynn would wash out of the league and Kahn would eventually be let go from the team years later, but the back to back selection of points guards remain one of the oddest NBA Draft moments in history.

Minnesota Timberwolves Postseason History

The Minnesota Timberwolves do not have the most illustrious playoff history, but that is something that the team is looking to change. The Wolves have only won two playoff series in their history, and the team is hoping to add to that number as soon as possible. The Wolves have won their division title one time, in 2004. That year Kevin Garnett teamed up with Sam Cassel and Latrell Sprewell to lead the Timberwolves to the Western Conference Finals. The team took down the Denver Nuggets in the first round of the postseason 4-1, then dispatched of the Sacramento Kings on an incredible series that went seven games. However, when the Wolves came up against the Los Angeles Lakers, their playoff run came to an end. Garnett would end up leaving the franchise a couple of years later and a long rebuilding process in Minnesota began. That process is still going on, and Wolves fans are hoping that things will come together and they'll see the team in the postseason sooner rather than later.

Minnesota Timberwolves Fans

When it comes to passionate basketball fans, Minnesota has plenty. The Timberwolves have some of the most intense fans in the National Basketball Association, and they always jump at the chance to see the team in person. The Wolves are looking to reach the postseason this year, and if they can do that they're bound to see a packed house at the Target Center for each and every matchup. It doesn't get any better for an NBA fan than to see their favorite squad take down one of the best teams in their conference in a heated postseason contest. Be there amidst a sea of fans when the Wolves make the playoffs.
