Missouri Tigers Football Trivia

Did you know that Kellen Winslow racked up more than 1,000 yards receiving in three different years in his NFL career?

Back in the 1970s and early 1980s, long before football became a predominately passing sport, tight ends were mainly used for blocking and for picking up small gains, particularly around the endzone. Well, Winslow sort of changed all that after he tore it up playing for the Missouri Tigers. He was so impressive in college that when he made it to the San Diego Chargers, the coaching staff saw his potential as a pass-catcher and Winslow soon helped to completely revolutionize the position. Even today, 1,000 yards receiving is considered a ridiculous season for a tight end, and in simply inconceivable before Winslow did it in 1980, 1981 and 1983.
