Missouri Tigers Football History

The Missouri Tigers, one of the most prestigious football programs in the country, formed in 1890 as a member of the Western Interstate University Football Association (WIUFA). Along with Iowa, Nebraska and Kansas, the teams that made up the WIUFA competed against each other regionally. In 1907, they joined in the newly formed Missouri Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Association, which would become the Big 8 Conference. In 2012, the Missouri Tigers moved conferences once again, now a member of the feared Southeast Conference, or SEC.

Over the length of this long and storied football program, the Missouri Tigers have appeared in 29 bowl games since their first in 1924, winning 13. The Tigers have claimed two unclaimed national championships, in 1960 and 2007, and some of the biggest names in Tigers history include legendary college and NFL tight end Kellen Winslow, an All American in 1978, and Roger Wehrli, the star cornerback for the Tigers from 1965-1969. Wehrli would later be a seven-time Pro Bowler and inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame. Overall, this is a program that is always in the middle of one incredible matchup or another, keeping fans hooked on the excitement every single year as the Tigers look to pull together and make their move towards the top of the standings this season.
