Mohegan Sun Arena History
Mohegan Sun Arena has been one of the biggest attractions in the Uncasville, Connecticut
area since 2001. The venue was ordinarily used as the home of the arena football team the Mohegan Wolves but since they moved
in 2004 the arena has primarily been known as the home of the Connecticut Sun of the WNBA. The Suns were the first team in
the league to be granted to a city without an NBA counterpart, but women's basketball is wildly popular in the area thanks
in large part to the incomparable success of the UCONN Huskies' women's basketball program, many of whose stars have gone
on to play in the WNBA. There is plenty of great entertainment aside from basketball offered throughout the year at Mohegan
Sun Arena and StubHub has tickets for all of them.
Mohegan Sun Arena Events
Each season the Connecticut
Suns take on many of the best teams in the WNBA at Mohegan Sun Arena including the Los Angeles Sparks, the Minnesota Lynx,
the Chicago Sky, the Washington Mystics, and others. When it is not WNBA season it is primarily concerts that bring people
to Mohegan Sun Arena and with the likes of Justin Timberlake, Eric Church, Michael Buble, Queen, and Adam Lambert, and more
hitting the stage at the venue it is easy to see why music lovers it is so popular. Big time comedians like Jeff Dunham, Ron
White, and Kevin James have the audience at Mohegan Sun Arena rolling in the aisles. Other sports events like MMA fights and
college basketball round out the schedule at Mohegan Sun Arena.
Hartford, Connecticut
Uncasville is located
just outside of Hartford which is the capital of Connecticut and is never at a shortage of things to do. The city emerged
from the Civil War as the wealthiest one in the country and held that title for several decades. A trip to the Mark Twain
House in Hartford is a must for visitors, and you can walk around the house where he wrote several of his most famous books.
If you are looking for some performing arts there are always performances by the Connecticut Opera and the Hartford Symphony
Orchestra. The XL Center, former home of the Hartford Whalers, hosts the biggest games of the UCONN Huskies basketball teams
as well as major concerts.
Mohegan Sun Arena Seating Layout
Mohegan Sun Arena holds just over 9,500 for
basketball games and when the hometown Connecticut Sun takes the floor there is a level of excitement in the building that
is unmatched in all of the WNBA. For concerts the maximum capacity of Mohegan Sun Arena is increased to 10,000, making it
just big enough to bring in the biggest names in music and comedy but still a smaller venue than you will be able to catch
the acts in than in other cities.
Trivia
Although the Connecticut Sun did not play in the state until
2003 the franchise has been in existence since 1999. The roots of the Sun can be traced back to Florida where they played
as the Orlando Miracle before relocating to Connecticut.
