Molly Johnson's voice overflows with joy, surprise, love, humor and sassiness. She not only entertains audiences around the world with her musical jazz styling, but Johnson is also the successful host of CBC Radio 2's weekend morning program. Johnson attributes her upbringing to her interest in music. Influenced by family and friends holding court at the Colonial Tavern, a place located not too far from her ballet school, Johnson liked the idea of writing songs. By age 15, she was leading a disco band called Chocolate Affair. She then joined Alta Moda and Infidels while finding her way as a jazz singer.
Molly Johnson has made a lasting impression with her music. She performed aboard the Royal Yacht Britannia for the Prince and late Princess of Wales. At the Toronto Downtown Jazz Festival, Johnson hit a career milestone when she became the first Canadian female vocalist to sell out a show on the main stage - the first in the festival's nearly 20-year history. She additionally earned the 2009 National Jazz Award for Best Female Vocalist. And her album of 2009, LUCKY, took home the title of the 2009 JUNO Award for Best Vocal Jazz Album.
