songs. At the tender age of 4, Alexander took up classical music lessons, and had an impressive command of the jazz piano
by 14 years old. From there on, he played at clubs and at recording sessions with Clue J & His Blues Blasters, and Aubrey
Adams, who he considered his all-time hero. Among his biggest influences, Monty sites Louis Armstrong and Nat King Cole, as
well as Art Tatum, Oscar Peterson, Wynton Kelly, and Ahmad Jamal. Now it's Monty's turn to inspire and influence other great

When he was 18, Monty Alexander moved to New York
to play music at Jilly Rizzo's jazz club Jilly's. During this transformative time, he met Frank Sinatra and befriended bassist
Ray Brown and Milt Jackson. Two years later, he moved to California and recorded his first album, Alexander the Great, for
Pacific Jazz at the young age of 20. Over the course of the next decade, Alexander recorded with Milt Jackson, Ernest Ranglin
and Ed Thigpen, and began He toured regularly in Europe, performing his classic trio for MPS Records. As the years went on,
many great artists sought out Mr. Alexander, and he began collaborating with big-time singers such as Ernestine Anderson,
Mary Stallings; and musical greats Dizzy Gillespie, Benny Golson, Jimmy Griffin and Frank Morgan. Come enjoy the soothing

Monty Alexander Tour Dates
Throughout his successive trios, Monty he has played with great musicians, including
Oscar Peterson: Herb Ellis, Ray Brown, Mads Vinding, Ed Thigpen and Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen. He even formed a group
in the mid-70's with John Clayton on bass and Jeff Hamilton on drums. The band made a huge impact on Europe's jazz music scene,
with their most famous collaboration being the Montreux Alexander, recorded during the Montreux Jazz Festival in July 1976.
Several decades later, Monty formed a reggae band, featuring all Jamaican musicians. The group released several successful
albums, before Alexander went solo again.
