About Morrissey

It was the late 1970s when Steven Patrick Morrissey set out on his music career by playing in a handful of local bands around Manchester. He was an early adopter of punk rock and fronted a band called The Nosebleeds with Billy Duffy (Cult) in 1978. During this time, he also founded a fan club for The Cramps. For a short time, Morrissey was in Slaughter and the Dogs. Morrissey also spent time writing three books before his musical career took off. He wrote books about The New York Dolls, James Dean and obscure B-movie actors. It was in the 1980s that Morrissey found a prominent seat in the music scene as the lyricist and vocalist in the band The Smiths. It was after he met Johnny Mar who was not only an amazing guitarist, but he was a kindred spirit for Morrissey. Both Johnny Mar and Morrissey came together to write some of the most impressive music together. The music they created with The Smiths was some of the most influential music of the 1980s. It was in 1983 that The Smiths were signed to Rough Trade Records to release Hand in Glove as their first single. After the release of the fist single, influential DJ John Peel took notice of the band and its next two singles, This Charming Man and What Difference Does It Make. This acknowledgement by the DJ proved to be positively impactful. The Smiths released its self-titled debut album in 1984. The album did not take long before it reached number 2 on the charts in Great Britain. The band continued to release albums like Meat is Murder, The Queen Is Dead, Strangeways and Here We Come. There is also a live album and a number of compilations that were released prior to the band dissolution in 1987. Morrissey waited no time before he released his solo album, Viva Hate. That album was followed by eight additional studio albums: Kill Uncle, Your Arsenal, Vauxhall and I, Southpaw Grammar, Maladjusted, You Are the Quarry, Ringleader of the Tormentors, and Years of Refusal. At the close of the 1990s and beginning of the new millennium, Morrissey took a hiatus before returning to another stint of musically productive years. In 2014, Morrissey released the album World Peace Is None of Your Business. Recently, he wrote his autobiography that he titled Autobiography. He has never lost his touch or appeal to a wide range of audiences, even while maintaining strong political and social opinions like being an animal protectionist. He has inspired a number of cover bands that aspire to be Morrissey, as well as bands who have found his work influential. Alas, there is only one Morrissey and the fans cannot get enough as he commonly sells out his shows.

Morrissey and The Smiths Breakthrough

Morrissey did not take long to breakthrough by experiencing a rather immediate success after collaborating with Johnny Mar with The Smiths. The first three singles were hits. That is, the first single Hand in Glove did not make it to the chart in the United Kingdom. It was the following two hits, This Charming Man and What Difference Does It Make, charted in the United Kingdom immediately. Capturing the attention of an influential DJ and the perfect mix of witty lyrics comparable to Oscar Wilde and brilliant music no doubt helped the next two albums hit the charts. The success of the two songs had led to such a strong following of The Smiths that by the release of its debut album, it hit the second position on the album charts in the United Kingdom. NME has referred to Morrissey as "one of the most influential artist ever."

The Morrissey Live Show and Fan Experience

Fans who never had the opportunity to see The Smiths play live revel in the opportunity to see Morrissey on stage. He has been an incredible influence throughout the years for his work in The Smiths and as a solo artist. He has also been a huge advocate for protecting animals and have often times made that clear at his shows. When Morrissey comes on stage with his well-known quiff, the audience swoons in unison in anticipation to hear their most favorite songs off his recent albums as well as favorites from The Smiths. The crowd screams out the song they are determined to hear life, hoping it made it onto the set list. There are so many great songs like Bigmouth Strikes Again, Suedehead, Satan Rejected My Soul, The Last of the Famous International Playboys, Irish Blood, English Heart, First of the Gang to Die and many more.

The publishing rights for The Smiths' and Morrissey's catalogs have just ended its 30 year publishing deal. As it turns out, they are now seeking new publishers who would be interested in this investment opportunity.
