The Schedule

It has been another exciting year for Women's Basketball in the Mountain West Conference, and when the conference tournament begins on March 10 anything can happen. The tournament will be held at the famous Thomas and Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nevada, adding another element of excitement to the tournament. Teams will be gunning for Fresno State, the champion of the 2013 Mountain West Women's Basketball Tournament while keeping an eye on the ultimate prize- a berth into the NCAA Tournament. Before the teams can start dreaming of making it to the Women's Final Four in Nashville, they will be preparing for a battle in Las Vegas, where a tournament win means an automatic bid into the NCAA Women's Tournament. On Monday, March 10, the #6 through #11 seeds face off at the Thomas and Mack Center with three exciting matchups on the first day of competition. You won't want to miss these games where each team will be focused on living to see another day. The second day of competition will be even more heated when the #4 seed takes the court against the #5 seed and the winners from Day One battle the top three seeds. There will be no time to be tired for those who played the previous day, when they face off against the well rested top seeds. After two days off, theMountain West Tournament tips off again on Friday, March 14, when the four victorious teams from Tuesdays games match up to determine who will play in the championship game. This exciting doubleheader will make for quite an evening when the season is on the line for these teams. On Saturday, March 15, all of the weeks action culminates into an always exciting Championship game. This game determines who gets the automatic bid and the title of 2014 Mountain West Women's Basketball Tournament Champions.

The Teams

Things are a bit crowded at the top of the Mountain West Women's Basketball standings this season, which will make for a very exciting conference tournament. With teams like the Colorado State Rams, Fresno State Bulldogs, Boise State Broncos, Nevada Wolfpack and UNLV Running Rebels all at the top of the table in the middle of the season, things are going to get very exciting down the stretch. Tournament seeding will be at stake, so prepare for some epic battles. The 2013 Mountain West Tournament Champion was the Fresno State Bulldogs, who was the Conference's lone team in the NCAA Tournament. The Colorado State Rams are having a very impressive season and they are sure to be gunning to stay atop the standings to secure the number one seed in the tournament championships. These rivals know each other well and will leave everything out on the court on their way to fulfilling their goal and a trip to the Big Dance.

Mountain West Women's Basketball Tournament History

Everyone knows how exciting college basketball is and when it comes to the postseason, there is no more exciting time than the postseason tournaments. The Women's Basketball Tournament in the Mountain West Conference is always thrilling with the teams all vying for the chance to compete in the NCAA Tournament and take on the best teams in the country. With the addition of San Jose State and Utah State to the Mountain West Conference for the 2013-2014 season, the Mountain West Conference has changed it's format, allowing all 11 teams to compete this year. Six time MWC tournament champions San Diego State Aztecs are the winningest team in the tournament's history with five time winner Colorado State Ram just behind them. Eleven teams will fave off in Las Vegas in March and it's anyone's tournament to win.

Mountain West Women's Basketball Tournament Trivia

Since 2000, only two times have the regular season champion also won the Mountain West Tournament. Which teams are the ones to complete the season?

In 2004-2005, the New Mexico Lobos won both the regular season and tournament championships. In 2011-2012, the San Diego State Aztecs were also able to pull off the season sweep. Every other season during this thirteen year period, a team other than the #1 seed was able to win the conference tournament.
