Music Festival History
The original electronic music festival hosted in Motor City at the Hart Plaza was billed as
the Detroit Electronic Music Festival. Held in 2000, the festival turned out to be a landmark occasion, drawing visitors from
every corner of the world to honor techno music fittingly in the place the genre was born. The festival has experienced many
name changes over the years but in 2006, it assumed the Movement Electronic Music Festival moniker. Today, it is one of the
planet's biggest electronic music festivals, as proven by the attendance numbers. The event has consistently exceeded the
Hart Plaza's capacity of 40,000, drawing 41,000 in 2006; 43,337 in 2007; 75,000 in 2008; 83,322 in 2009; 95,000 in 2010; 99,282
in 2011; and 107,343 in 2012.
