Though they had been around since 1992, Nada Surf didn't burst into the mainstream music scene until four years later,
when "Popular" became an MTV hit. The song would remain a kind of one-hit wonder for the band, despite them continuing to
record great pop records that appealed to an enthusiastic, if more underground, base of fans. Check them out as they head
back on tour!
Nada Surf was formed by Matthew Caws (vocals, guitars) and Daniel Lorca (bass) in 1991 as a project called Because Because
Because. Two years later the duo revamped the project and called it Nada Surf. Ira Elliot was brought on after Nada Surf's
original drummer quit and the trio signed to Elektra in 1995. With former Cars frontman Ric Ocasek in the studio as producer,
they crafted a brilliant debut, High/Low, which scored a hit with "Popular."
