Navy Midshipmen Football History

Historically, there have been very few Navy Midshipmen who have gone on to play in the NFL because once players are done with their college playing career, they move on to complete their service requirements. Still, when it comes to Midshipmen in the NFL, one name always stands above the rest: the great Roger Staubach. Staubach played for Navy in their golden years, and was the last serviceman to win the Heisman Trophy when he won the award in 1963, leading the Midshipmen to a 9-1 record and finished the season number two after losing the National Championship game to Texas. Outside Staubach, however, the Midshipmen have had plenty of other great players and teams, including 23 consensus All-Americans.

Navy Midshipmen Football Trivia

Did you know that Roger Staubach isn't the only Midshipmen player to win the Heisman?

Before Staubach started dicing up defenses, it was halfback Joe Bellino who was so dominant in 1960 that he won the award, given to the most outstanding player in college football during a given season.
