NCAA Tournament Tickets - San Diego

NCAA Tournament San Diego tickets

NCAA Tournament San Diego Schedule

From the moment the college basketball season gets under way, each team has one long term goal in mind, to make the NCAA Tournament, for after all, this is the necessary first step for any team hoping to bring home a National Championship. If the teams are talented, or fortunate, enough to be deemed worthy by the Selection Committee and be one of the 68 teams in the field, the goals begin to be adjusted. Now the teams take a one game at a time approach, simply looking to survive and advance, possibly making it to the title game. With the stunning upsets and incredible Cinderella runs in the tournament there is no reason for any team not to believe they can make a deep tourney run. The journey begins the first weekend of the Tournament and one of the spots chosen to host the first round games is San Diego, California.

On Friday March 21st and Sunday March 23rd the first two rounds of the tournament will be played at Viejas Arena in San Diego, California the home of the San Diego State Aztecs basketball teams. The rise of the SDSU basketball program has proven San Diego to be a basketball town and Viejas Arena is one of the most exciting college basketball venues in the country. Four thrilling games on Friday and two more on Sunday will keep Viejas Arena rocking all weekend long. A long weekend in Southern California watching one of the most exciting sporting events of the year is hard to beat so begin making plans to be at Viejas Arena on March 21st and 23rd as soon as possible.

About the Teams

The battle to make the tournament is never easy and every team in Division I is well aware of this fact. Each year there are a few heartbroken bubble teams who are left out of the field of 68 as well as some teams who pundits had predicted would be left out but barely sneakd in. Every team is thrilled to be here, but suddenly merely making the Tournament is not nearly enough. A new hunger emerges and no one wants to be sent home during the first weekend of the Tournament. They can all see the light at the end of the tunnel, the reward for all of the hard work they have put in during the season, and it is a trip to the Final Four. Nearly any person who has picked up a basketball has dreamed of hitting the game winner at the buzzer which will push their team one step closer to the coveted National Championship, and each player on the court is looking to live out that dream.

The Experience

Between the dedicated student athletes, the coaches prowling the sidelines, the enthusiastic cheerleaders, and the vociferous fans, college basketball offers a sports experience unlike any other. When you step into Viejas Arena for the first two rounds this will all be clear. This is not to mention the heart-pounding conclusions of back and forth games and the tension and release as a last second heave bounces around the rim with everyone in the building anxiously waiting to see if the ball falls through the hoop or rims out, leaving one team rushing the court in jubilation while the other falls to the floor with their heads in their hands, mourning the end of another college basketball season and the dashing of dreams. When you are attending the NCAA Tournament, just after all of that drama unfolds you will have about thirty minutes to catch your breath and recover before it all starts again with the tip off of the next game.

NCAA Basketball

NCAA Basketball has provided the American zeitgeist with terminology specific to the event that has seeped into virtually every other aspect of popular culture, as that is how big its influence is. Terms like The Big Dance, Cinderella, March Madness, Sweet Sixteen, the Final Four, and others are well known to even people who pay little attention to sports. As soon as the tournament brackets are revealed on Selection Sunday millions of Americans begin making bold predictions on how the Tournament will unravel. Wagers are made, contests are entered, and countless sudden college basketball experts are explaining why their brackets are correct and anxiously awaiting the start of the tournament to see if they will be proven right. The real beauty of the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament is that virtually no one will be right because the event is so unpredictable.

Each year 68 teams are chosen to participate in the NCAA Tournament with 32 teams getting automatic bids as conference champions and 36 teams being given at large bids. The tournament field was expanded to 68 in 2011, with four teams playing what used to be referred to as play in games in Dayton, Ohio before the Round of 64. These games have since grown to be referred to as the first round of the tournament.
