The best collegiate women's volleyball players will be on display for all fans of the sport to see in person on December 19th and 21st of this year for the 2013 NCAA Women's Volleyball Championship. This event features the best teams in women's volleyball as they go head-to-head in exciting action that will entertain all those in attendance.

Last year it was the Texas Longhorns that were able to take home the title, the second in school history. Texas will be looking to repeat as champions, something that was done as recently as 2010 by Penn State in an incredible run of four consecutive titles for the Nittany Lions. History

The NCAA Women's Volleyball Championship is tournament in Division I athletics that features the best women's volleyball teams in the collegiate ranks. This annual competition was first held in 1981, when the USC Trojans took down the UCLA Bruins in a match that sparked a rivalry that endures to this day. Volleyball was one of a multitude of sports that was added to the NCAA Championships that year and has become a wildly popular competition that is well-attended by fans from all across the country. The Stanford Cardinal is the most successful NCAA women's volleyball team in this history of this tournament, winning the event six times. The Penn State Nittany Lions have won the championship five times, taking home four consecutive titles from 2007 to 2010. The Texas Longhorns won last year's event, defeating the Oregon Ducks in Louisville, KY.

Before the NCAA began to govern women's collegiate athletics in 1981, which organization was in charge of women's college volleyball?

The answer is the Association for Intercollegiate Athletics for Women, which governed the sport from 1970 to 1980. The NCAA took over in 1981 and started the NCAA Women's Volleyball Championship that year.
