Nevada Wolf Pack Basketball Schedule

Lawlor Events Center in Reno, Nevada really comes to life during college basketball season when it serves as the home of the Nevada Wolf Pack basketball team. The Wolf Pack are a recent addition to the Mountain West Conference, annually one of the most hotly contested in all of NCAA basketball, but they have wasted no time establishing themselves as contenders. Last season Nevada finished tied for third in the conference with in-state rivals UNLV and you can be sure that they are looking to improve upon their 10-8 conference record in a quest to return to the NCAA Tournament in March. It is always a daunting task for a team to successfully navigate their way through a tough Mountain West schedule but the Wolf Pack appear to have the talent and motivation to do just that in the 2014-2015 season.

This year the Nevada Wolf Pack will once again be going up against all of the best teams the Mountain West has to offer including the UNLV Running Rebels, the New Mexico Lobos, the San Diego State Aztecs, and the Boise State Broncos. Games against UNLV are always exciting and the Wolf Pack are still looking to find other rivals in their new conference but one seems to be brewing with the Boise State Broncos who knocked the Wolf Pack out of the Mountain West Conference tournament last season. Nevada appears to be poised to accomplish great things this season and you will want to be there at Lawlor Events Center to cheer them on to some big wins. Tickets to see the Wolf Pack play in Reno always sell quickly so be sure to get yours from StubHub as soon as possible.

Nevada Wolf Pack Basketball History

The Nevada Wolf Pack have had a basketball team for over one hundred years, dating back to 1913. The team has seen plenty of success, having won 18 conference regular season championships along with four conference tournament titles. The Wolf Pack's most recent conference championship came in 2012 when they were the regular season champions during their final year in the Western Athletic Conference before joining the Mountain West prior to the 2012-2013 season. Since joining the Mountain West Conference, Nevada has seen that their new home will be a bit tougher than the WAC was but have also shown other teams in the league that the new kid on the block is no slouch and will be bringing home a conference title before long. The Wolf Pack have been to the NCAA Tournament six times and made it all the way to the Sweet Sixteen in 2004. Overall, the Nevada Wolf Pack have a 4-6 record in the Tournament and their last appearance was in 2007. Head coach David Carter really knows how to fire up his troops and will surely have the Wolf Pack ready to go by the time Mountain West play begins and the team will once again be at or near the top of the conference standings. This is an exciting time for the Wolf Pack and their fans and you will want to be a part of it right from the start of the 2014-2015 season.

Nevada Wolf Pack Basketball Conference

In recent years the Mountain West Conference has emerged as a true national powerhouse. There are now eleven members of the Mountain West Conference: San Diego State, UNLV, Air Force, Boise State, Colorado State, New Mexico, Nevada, Fresno State, Wyoming, Utah State, and San Jose State. Previous members have included TCU, Utah, and BYU. Of the current members, Utah State leads the way with twenty NCAA Tournament appearances. However, so far all of their appearances have come before joining the Mountain West. UNLV and Wyoming, two charter members of the Mountain West, are next in line with 19 and 14 respectively. UNLV and Wyoming are also the only two members of the conference to win a National Championship, with UNLV winning in 1990 and Wyoming winning all the way back in 1943. Lately it has been San Diego State, New Mexico, and UNLV who have dominated the conference on the basketball court with SDSU tearing up the national rankings during the 2013-2014 season. The current season is a celebration marking the fifteenth anniversary of the creation of the Mountain West Conference.

The Experience

Attending a top college basketball game is one of the best experiences to be found in sports. Many of the top student athletes in the world take the court in college basketball, when this is combined with some of the most passionate fans in all of sports there is an atmosphere in the arena that cannot be found anywhere else. When you set foot into Lawlor Events Center for a Nevada Wolf Pack home basketball game this will all be clear. As the teams set up for opening jump ball the fans get on their feet and loudly cheer for their alma mater and hometown favorites. The game continues full of end to end action, big time shots, and clutch defensive stops. All of a sudden the clock is winding down in the second half and the two sides are wrapped up in yet another tight contest. Your palms get sweaty with each trip down the floor and each time a player from your favorite team lets loose a shot you hold your breath until the ball tickles the twine. This continues until the final buzzer when the Wolf Pack's side erupts after another big win and their fans exit of the arena in jubilation. The minute you leave Lawlor Events Center you will want to begin your next trip back to help cheer on the Wolf Pack.

Sure, the Wolf Pack made it to the Sweet Sixteen in 2004, but the 2007 team is regarded as arguably the best Nevada team to date. In 2007 the Wolf Pack were in the the top ten of both national polls, ranked number nine in the Coaches Poll and number ten in the Associated Press Poll. The team was able to win their first round NCAA Tournament game but lost in the second round of the Tournament, falling short of the Sweet Sixteen.
