New Edition Background
New Edition's roots
are located in Boston, Massachusetts, where childhood friends Ricky Bell, Michael Bivins, Bobby Brown, Travis Pettus, and
Corey Rackley decided to form a music group. All five of the boys were living in housing projects in Boston, and after coming
together with their love of music, they decided to start performing wherever they could, which included a local talent show.
The boys' fate forever changed after performing at a Roxbury talent show, as local manager Brooke Payne discovered the talented
quintet and decided to take the group under his wing. Ralph Tresvant replaced Rackley and Ronnie DeVoe replaced Pettus, completing
the standard lineup of New Edition.
New Edition got its first big break in 1982, when they performed at the Hollywood
Talent Night at Boston's Strand Theatre. The group came in second place at the talent show, but the producer Maurice Starr
was so impressed with their star potential that he decided to help them record their debut album, Candy Girl. When they released
their debut album in 1983, it immediately became a hit, featuring charting singles like "Candy Girl", "Jealous Girl", "Is
This The End", and "Popcorn Love". Suddenly, New Edition had become the biggest new band in music, and their R&B songs
quickly became classic tunes.
Throughout the years, New Edition's members went on to work on solo projects, but now
they are all back together and are ready to put on more knockout shows for their fans. Whether you have been a devoted New
