New England Revolution Schedule in 2014

The New England Revolution are ready to take to the soccer field in 2014 and do battle with anyone that stands between them and the MLS Cup. The Revolution have a lot of quality players that are looking to make their mark on Major League Soccer, and that should help catapult New England to the next level in 2014. The Revolution play in the Eastern Conference, where you'll find some of the top teams in all of MLS. Last season the Revolution finished with the third-best record in the Eastern Conference, which secured a spot in the postseason. However, despite giving Sporting Kansas City a run in the Conference Semifinal round, they were knocked out of the playoffs by the eventual MLS Cup Champions. This season the Revolution have hit the ground running, and are looking like a real contender to post the best record in the Eastern Conference.

The Revolution have earned some big wins in 2014, but their 5-0 shelling of the Seattle Sounders on May 11th stands out as a contest that showed the true potential of this team. The Revolution were firing on all cylinders in that contest offensively, and they were playing excellent defense as well. Seattle is a quality team, but New England has shown this season that they are capable of taking down any other club on any given day.

Sporting Kansas City is right there near the top of the standings yet again in 2014, and the Revolution are definitely looking forward to their head-to-head matchup with KC on September 3rd. The standings usually end up pretty tight in points by the end of the season, so this game could make all the difference in the world for these two clubs. Kansas City is looking strong, and New England would love to exact their revenge on the team that bounced them from postseason play in 2013. The Revolution took care of business earlier this season when they took down Kansas City on April 26th, and they will look to repeat that feat. Kansas City is certainly not the only team on the home schedule this season, though, so take a look at what other teams will be coming to Gillette Stadium in 2014.

New England Revolution History

The New England Revolution compete as a member of the Eastern Conference of Major League Soccer, which is the premiere soccer league in the United States and Canada, and is also a member of CONCACAF. Nineteen teams in the league compete during the regular season which begins each March hoping to earn a spot in the postseason. Each team plays thirty four regular season games with the regular season champion being awarded the Supporters' Shield. The top ten teams advance to the playoffs with the last two teams playing in the MLS Cup in December. The first season of the MLS was in 1996 with ten charter members of which the Columbus Crew was one. Plans for establishing the league began as far back as 1988 when U.S. Soccer made an agreement with FIFA to have plans to get a Division I professional soccer league in place in order to be allowed to host the 1994 World Cup. The New England Revolution have been a part of MLS since the beginning, and the team has experienced its fair share of success over the years, reaching four MLS Cups. However, the team is still looking to capture their first MLS Cup victory.
