New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival - About the Event

The " Jazz Fest," as some people call it, started in 1970 when George Wein, the jazz man responsible for the Newport Jazz festival, was asked to create a festival that would celebrate New Orleans as the birthplace of jazz and to bring together all the cultures that are affected by the music. Wein felt it was important to bring together the heritage of New Orleans with all its food and crafts; he also wanted to have the music play a major roll with concerts in the evening. Don't let the opportunity pass you by to be part of such a great thing. Today is the day to get your " jazz fest" tickets.
