The New Orleans Pelicans in 2013-14

The New Orleans Pelicans have a roster filled with talented players that are looking to come together on the court. The Pelicans are going to have a tough time making the playoffs in 2013-14, but that won't stop them from fighting throughout the long 82-game season. The Pelicans made a huge draft on draft day in 2013, sending two first-round picks to the Philadelphia 76ers for All-Star point guard Jrue Holiday. Holiday has been solid for New Orleans in his first season with the team, but it's clear that there are some chemistry issues on this roster. Holiday, Eric Gordon and Tyreke Evans are all most effective when they have the balls in their hands and the freedom to create, but there is only one basketball. Still, these three players are talented and the team is hoping that they will figure out how to coexist as time goes by. The biggest highlight of the team's 2013-14 season has been the emergence of big man Anthony Davis as a bona fide star player. Davis was the top pick in the 2012 NBA Draft, so the team certainly had high hopes for him, but he has developed quicker than anyone expected and is already one of the best players in the NBA. Davis should lead this team to the postseason sooner rather than later.

New Orleans Pelicans Trivia

Where did New Orleans Pelicans star Anthony Davis attend college?

The answer is the University of Kentucky, where Davis starred under head coach John Calipari. Davis arrived at Kentucky with a lot of hype, and he proceeded to live up to the lofty expectations. "The Brow," as he would later be dubbed, quickly showed that he was one of the best players in college basketball and a defensive terror that turned back shot attempts with regularity. Davis would go on to win National Player of the Year Honors and lead the Wildcats to the program's eight National Championship. David would enter the NBA Draft after his freshman season and be selected by the Pelicans with the first overall pick in the 2012 NBA Draft. David has himself a very good rookie season, though Rookie of the Year honors went to Portland's Damian Lillard. Davis has broken out in a big way in this second season in the pros, though, and assumed the role of a star player very early in his career. The Pelicans hope that he can lead them to the playoffs in the very near future.
