The Jets in the Playoffs

The New York Jets have had a solid season in 2013 this far, albeit a bit inconsistent on the offensive side of the ball. However, any time a team is starting a rookie at the quarterback position, some inconsistency has to be expected. The National Football League is a different kind of animal than the college game, something that Jets quarterback Geno Smith is finding out for himself. Smith has experienced the normal rookie struggles this season, but he's also shown flashes of incredible play. Smith has had a hard time stringing together quality performances this season, but he's show a good arm and a level of athleticism that exceeded the expectations on that front. The Jets don't have a star receiver or a great tight end, so Smith's job is made more difficult, but Jets fans have to feel encouraged by their young signal caller. The team seems to have found a reliable running back in Chris Ivory, who when healthy is a bruising force on the ground. Ivory getting a lot of touches makes life a lot easier for the young Smith. Defensively, the Jets have been as aggressive as ever under head coach Rex Ryan, and this team is hoping to sneak into the postseason.

If the Jets are able to reach postseason, you never know what could happen. Just last season the Baltimore Ravens sneaked into the playoffs, ended up getting hot and made a run all the way to the Super Bowl, where they won. The playoffs are always unpredictable and often come down to matchups, so the Jets are hoping they can earn one of the wild card berths in the AFC and proceed to make some serious noise. The fans of the Jets are notoriously intense, and that intensity will only increase in the playoffs.

The Team

The New York Jets are putting together a solid season in 2013, and have seen some positive signs out of their rookie quarterback Geno Smith. Smith has posted some fine performances this season, though he's made some costly mistakes as any rookie tends to do. This Jets team is a hungry group of players that are looking to scratch and claw their way into the postseason. Head coach Rex Ryan is known for his ability to fire his team up, and if he can get them to post some wins down the stretch this team could find themselves in the playoffs facing off with some of the best teams in the AFC.

Once in the postseason, it's anybody's guess who will emerge from the conference to represent the AFC in the Super Bowl. Wild card teams have been to the big game before, so all it takes it making the playoffs to keep a team's hopes alive. The Jets could definitely do some serious damage in the postseason, as they've got s very solid running game with Chris Ivory leading the charge. Ivory is and old-fashioned downhill runner that can mow over defensive players without batting an eye. Equipped with a strong running game and a good defense, the Jets could be a threat to some of the high seeds in the AFC. Championships have been won with that formula many times in the past.

The Experience

The National Football League is the country's most popular sports league for a reason, and people love to head out to the stadium to see their favorite team hit the field in person. During the playoffs, however, the excitement gets ratcheted up a few notches and the fans go absolutely wild in the stands. It's a whole new atmosphere in the postseason, and that's why getting out to a playoff game is something that every NFL fan should experience at least once.

Did you know that if the Jets are able to reach the Super Bowl this season, it will be a home game for the team?

That's right; this year's Super Bowl is set to be played at MetLife Stadium, the Jets' home field.

The New York Jets were founded in 1960 as the New York Titans, and the team changed its name to the Jets in 1963. In Super Bowl III the Jets took down the Baltimore Colts in one of the biggest upsets in the history of the game on the back of a famous guarantee from quarterback Joe Namath. The Jets have been unable to win the big game since, but have reached the playoffs 12 times since that incredible game.

The Fans

Jets fans are known for their passion regarding their favorite team, and that passion is only heightened when it comes to the playoffs. The Jets have been unable to win a Super Bowl since the 1960s, and the fans have been waiting with bated breath for another title ever since. When New York is in the postseason, every Jets fan is wrapped up in football.
