New York Red Bulls Schedule in 2014

The New York Red Bulls are ready to get things going this season and rack up as many wins as possible in their quest for the top spot in the conference in 2014. The Red Bulls have an exciting group of players that are ready to do whatever it takes to amass a ton of victories this season, and fans of the team are anticipating a big year for New York. The Red Bulls are a part of the Eastern Conference, a conference that is very competitive from season to season. In 2013 the Red Bulls showed up in a big way, notching the best record in the conference. Now, however, there is going to be a target on their backs, as other teams in the conference will be looking to knock them from the top spot. However, the Red Bulls look to have the talent to repeat as the best regular season team in the East in 2014. The team has some great home matchups in what should be another exciting season of Red Bulls soccer.

The Red Bulls will most definitely be looking forward to playing the Houston Dynamo in 2014, as Houston was the team that knocked off New York in the playoffs last postseason. Houston earned the fourth seed in the East playoffs last year but played their best at the right time, sending the Red Bulls home with a 2-1 victory in the second game of their Conference Semifinals series. New York will be out for revenge this time around. Another team that the Red Bulls will be ready for is Sporting Kansas City, a team that finished just behind New York in the standings last season but was able to run through the postseason to an MLS Cup victory.

New York Red Bulls Conference

The New York Red Bulls are part of the Eastern Conference of the Major League Soccer, which they joined in 1996 as the New York / New Jersey MetroStars. The Red Bulls saw just mediocre successes in the Eastern Conference during their early years, but have since accumulated a tough army of players, and have taken home the MLS Eastern Conference regular season title in 2000, 2010 and 2013. Along with the Red Bulls kick-starting the Eastern Conference in 1996 with the start of the MLS, other teams in the Eastern Conference that have competed against the Red Bulls since '96 include the Columbus Crew, Sporting Kansas City and New England Revolution. The Chicago Fire joined the conference in 1998, followed by the Houston Dynamo in 2006, Toronto FC in 2007, Philadelphia Union in 2010 and Montreal Impact in 2012. Even despite the addition of several tough teams recently, the New York Red Bulls continue to gain traction in the conference, already with two conference titles in the 2010s.

New York Red Bulls Rivalries

As one of the inaugural teams in the Eastern Conference of the Major League Soccer, the New York Red Bulls quickly struck up a rivalry with the D.C. United, another charter team, early on, and this rivalry has continued to thrive thanks to the close proximity of the two teams. The Red Bulls and United face off against each other every year for the Atlantic Cup, which goes to the team that has accumulated the most points throughout the course of the year whenever the two teams play each other. The Red Bulls have taken home the Atlantic Cup title on multiple occasions, including in 2003, 2010, 2011 and 2013. Other rivals of the New York Red Bulls include other teams in the region, including the New England Revolution and Philadelphia Union. With several East Coast teams popping up around the MLS, the New York Red Bulls have plenty of area teams to battle en route to domination in the Eastern Conference, and they have done a solid job recently at winning big games against conference rivals.

New York Red Bulls History

The Major League Soccer came to life in 1996 boasting ten inaugural teams, including the New York / New Jersey MetroStars, which has eventually come to be known as the New York Red Bulls. The Red Bulls began their tenure in the MLS playing home games at the Giants Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, but in 2009 the soccer specific Red Bull Arena opened in Harrison, New Jersey, prompting the Red Bulls to make the move to the 25,000 capacity arena. The Red Bulls have yet to take home a MLS Cup championship title, but the team reached the MLS Cup final in 2008, and even won the Supporters' Shield in 2013. The team has also taken part in international tournaments, including the Copa Merconorte, La Manga Cup, CONCACAF Champions League, Barclays New York Challenge and Emirates Cup. Although they were the last of the original ten MLS teams to win a significant MLS trophy, the Red Bulls' win of the Supporters' Shield in 2013 put them on the right track to success.
