Philadelphia Flyers Tickets

Philadelphia Flyers Schedule

The Philadelphia Flyers are primed to take the ice again this season as the NHL season gets underway. After a decent 2013-2014 season that saw the Flyers make it to the Eastern Conference quarterfinals they will be looking to improve even more this year with hopes of bringing the Stanley Cup back to the City of Brotherly Love for the first time since 1975. The Flyers have had plenty of great teams over the years, along with some difficult times, and it appears that the franchise is in the middle of a renaissance that could see them reemerge as one of the top teams in the Eastern Conference. Players like Claude Giroux, Wayne Simmonds, and Steve Mason have given hockey fans in Philadelphia plenty to cheer for as well as hope that the future is bright for the Flyers. The Flyers have long been one of the most popular teams in the NHL and tickets for all of their biggest games at the Wells Fargo Center sell out quickly so be sure to get yours from StubHub well in advance.

As the 20014-2015 NHL season gets underway the Philadelphia Flyers will be facing off against all of the best teams in the NHL including their Metropolitan Division foesthe Carolina Hurricanes, the Columbus Blue Jackets, the New Jersey Devils, the New York Islanders, the New York Rangers, the Philadelphia Flyers, the Pittsburgh Penguins, and the Washington Capitals. The regular season kicks off at the Wells Fargo Center on October 9th when the New Jersey Devils come to town. Every big Philadelphia Flyers fan will want to be in the arena to cheer the Flyers on to a win during their first home game of the season and the environment inside the Wells Fargo Center should be electric.

Philadelphia Flyers History

The Philadelphia Flyers have been playing in the NHL since 1967 and joined during the first expansion after the Original Six era and became the first expansion team to win the Stanley Cup seven years after after joining the league. The franchise has won 16 division championships and 8 conference championships, however they have won only two Stanley Cup Championships. The Flyers' two Stanley Cup victories came in back to back years in 1974 and 1975. They have a long standing rivalry with the New York Rangers which dates back to the 1970′s, and also a rivalry with the Pittsburgh Penguins. Between 1994 and 2007 the Flyers and the Devils were the only two teams that won the Atlantic Division title, and an intense rivalry developed between the two teams during this time. Flyers fans have had their fair share of heartbreak over the years, but it appears that the franchise is back on track after making a return to playoffs last season before falling to the Toronto Maple Leafs in the conference quarterfinals. This season they will once again be led by center Claude Giroux as they look to improve upon last season's results and make a return to their glory days of the mid-Seventies.

The Experience

Hockey fans in general are some of the most passionate sports fans around, but nothing quite matches the fanaticism surrounding the NHL playoffs and fans of the Philadelphia Flyers are some of the most dedicated and vociferous fans in the entire NHL. On game day at Wells Fargo Center the fans file in and take their seats and that is when the cheering and chanting begins. As the clock winds down closer and closer to the dropping of the puck the crowd works itself into a frenzy. Finally both teams are ready for face off and the excitement really begins. Thunderous, bone rattling hits, incredible displays of speed and agility, powerful slapshots, and tremendous saves set the arena on fire for the following three periods of world class college hockey. By the time the final buzzer sounds your voice is hoarse and your palms are stinging from clapping and giving high fives and you will already be planning a return trip. Everything is ratcheted up a notch during the NHL playoffs and the further teams advance the more intense the competition becomes. If you thought regular season NHL games were exciting, just wait until you experience an NHL playoff game live and in person.

NHL Eastern Conference Metropolitan Division

The Metropolitan Division is comprised of eight teams: the Carolina Hurricanes, the Columbus Blue Jackets, the New Jersey Devils, the New York Islanders, the New York Rangers, the Philadelphia Flyers, the Pittsburgh Penguins, and the Washington Capitals. Many of the teams in the division are among the top franchises in the history of the NHL and four of the eight teams are located in either New York City area or in Pennsylvania. The 2014-2015 season is only the for the Metropolitan Division which was formed due to the realignment of the NHL. The majority of the teams came to the Metropolitan Division from the Atlantic Division, including the New Jersey Devils, the New York Islanders, the New York Rangers, the Philadelphia Flyers, and the Pittsburgh Penguins. Meanwhile the Washington Capitals and the Carolina Hurricanes came from the Southeast Division and the Columbus Blue Jackets joined from the Central Division. It is home to some of the biggest rivalries in the league including that between the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Washington Capitals and the one between the New York Rangers and the New York Islanders. The Metropolitan Division is currently the only division in the NHL without a Canadian Team. The Pittsburgh Penguins are the defending Metropolitan Division champions while the New York Rangers, who finished second in the division, won the Eastern Conference Playoffs before falling to the Los Angeles Kings in the Stanley Cup Finals.

Trivia

The Philadelphia Flyers have retired five numbers: Bernie Parent's number 1, Mark Howe's number 2, Barry Ashbee's number 4, Bill Barber's number 7, and Bobby Clarke's number 16. Additionally, the Flyers took the number 31 out of circulation after Pelle Lindbergh, a former goalie, passed away in 1985, although the number was never officially retired.
