About Nils Lofgren
In an interview Nils Lofgren explained, "When I set out to be a professional musician, I certainly
wouldn't have been this greedy to think almost five decades later, I'd have a body of work like this, pretty good health,
be in one of the best bands of all time… and have a great wife and home. I couldn't imagine having a run this great
and long." While that nicely and concisely sums up the career and life of Nils Lofgren, there is more to learn about this
great musician. Lofgren was born in Chicago, Illinois in 1951 and then moved to Washington, D.C. when he was quite young.
At the age of 5, Nils Lofgren was given a classical accordion to learn. He studied playing it until he was 10 years of age,
when he moved on to study classical music in depth along with jazz. As he grew older, he found an interest in rock music and
started to play both the piano and guitar. He was a founding member of the band Grin, with George Daly and Bob Gordon (bass),
and Bob Berberich (drums). Thereafter, Lofgren joined a band formed by Neil Young and provided both guitar and piano on After
the Gold Rush. Lofgren was also a brief member of Crazy Horse and contributed to songs on the 1971 EP. Lofgren set out on
a solo career and his debut album was a hit with critics and received positive reviews from Rolling Stone Magazine. He continued
to win the favor of the public and critics with each album he released. His musical talent took him to many places on television
and in real life. During the 1980s, he joined Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band and participated in the Born in the
U.S.A. Tour, and many more that followed before working on his solo career again. He continued to record with other artists
like Patti Scialfa, Neil Young and the Ringo Starr's All-Starr Band. Collaborating and playing with other artists was always
welcomed, as his Sacred Weapon release included guest appearances by well-known musicians like David Crosby, Graham Nash,
Willie Nelson and Martin Sexton.
Nils Lofgren Breakthrough
It was quite clear from early on in Nils Lofgren's
career that he was a special talent and was met with success from early on. It is not often that a musician takes off on his
or her solo career and releases a critically acclaimed album like Nils Lofgren. The induction to the Rock an Roll Hall of
Fame as having been a member of Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band was only a small testament to the successful career that
he was able to break out and make. The current retrospective album provides additional evidence that Nils Lofgren had a long
and fruitful career from the day he picked up the classical accordion at age 5.
Nils Lofgren Trivia
Nils Lofgren competed as a gymnast when he was in high school. In 2008, Lofgren had his hip replaced due to his age and performing
flips on stage. Gymnastics have not been his only interest in sports, as he has frequently referred to himself as a "huge
sports fan" and has discussed his interest in basketball and football. A bit of trivia for those interested in his taste in
equipment, Lofgren generally sticks to using Fender, but has played with Gibson and others.
Nils Lofgren Live
The live show of Nils Lofgren is impressive, as he was full of tricks while playing on stage in his
early years. While it is not likely to see Lofgren perform the flips he did in the past, he will still rock his fender guitars.
Nils Lofgren has been performing on stage for decades with many different artists by his side, he knows how to entertain a
live audience. Don't miss your chance to see Nils Lofgren celebrate his career on stage at a live performance in Las Vegas
