Kansas City native Norman Brown picked up the guitar at age eight, finding influence in guitar gods like Jimi Hendrix, the Isley Brothers and Wes Montgomery, before moving from classic pop to jazz, a step solidified when he moved to Los Angeles and studied at the Musician's Institute in Hollywood. Following graduation he signed to Notown's MoJazz label.
