Northwestern Wildcats Football Schedule in 2014

The Northwestern Wildcats are ready to tear into the competition when they hit the football field this season to take on some of the toughest teams that college football has to offer. The Wildcats will take to the gridiron with a roster filled with quality returning upperclassmen and some exciting new players that could help this team take their game to the next level. The Wildcats play in the Big Ten Conference, one of the top conferences in the sport, and are always faced with a tough schedule both at home and on the road on an annual basis. The Wildcats are coming off a 2013 season in which they played very well against non-Big Ten opponents but struggled in conference play. These players know that they're going to have to elevate their play against Big Ten opponents if they're going to rise in the ranks of a conference as competitive as this one. The Wildcats are looking very strong coming out of their spring practices. The program did not have a spring game this year, but that doesn't mean the team did not get some solid work in to kick off their 2014 campaign. The home schedule has plenty of fantastic matchups to offer fans this season, so expect to see a great fan turnout at each and every home contest in 2014.

The Wildcats know that they'll have their hands full when the Wisconsin Badgers hit the gridiron at Ryan Field this season. The Badgers always come equipped with one of the best rosters in the Big Ten, and 2014 should be no different. The Wildcats will have to win the battle in the trenches, where the Badgers often have some of the biggest and strongest athletes in college football. If they can get the advantage where the big guys play, then they may just have what it takes to pull off the upset against Wisconsin. The stands are sure to be packed to the brim for a matchup of this caliber, as any Wildcats fan would love to see their favorite team take down a juggernaut like the Badgers. This contest could give the Wildcats the kind of momentum they need to shoot up the standings in 2014.

The team has another tough home game coming their way on November 8th when the Michigan Wolverines come to town. The Wolverines are often one of the top teams in the nation, as they have a reputation for having an elite football program. A win against Michigan would be a huge statement for Northwestern, but it's going to take a team effort where every player on the field is doing their job. The Wildcats are not going to be able to equal the talent of a Michigan squad, so they're going to have to win the game in the trenches and do all the little things that can easily go unnoticed on the field. This could be a huge victory of Northwestern, and there will be plenty of fans on hand to witness it. These two games are not the only home contests of 2014, though, so check out the entire schedule and see the other awesome matchups awaiting the team this year.

Northwestern Wildcats Football History

The Northwestern Wildcats are members of the Legends Division of the powerhouse Big 10 Conference. This great academic institution has been a part of the Big 10 Conference since it began in 1896, and has won eight Big 10 titles. The Wildcats have enjoyed much recent success, appearing in a bowl game every year since 2008. There are many notable Wildcat alumni who have gone on to great success in the National Football League including Pro Bowl wide receiver Steve Tasker, NFL Hall of Fame quarterback Otto Graham, and their current head coach, Pat Fitzgerald. Over the years, the Wildcats have gotten a reputation for playing in close games during the 1996 season, earning themselves the nickname "Cardiac Cats". The "Cardiac Cats" name lives on, as the Wildcat seem to find a way to keep things close.

Fan Experience

Football is one of the best sports to see live and college football across the country has turned into a way of life rather than just a sporting event. Game day is full of rituals, from dressing up in team colors and painting your face, to writing signs of the television cameras, to putting an incredible spread of food together to enjoy with friends and family outside the stadium before the game. In college football, a Saturday is full of sacred traditions that have been passed down through generations of students, ripe with superstitions and honor. Seeing a game at Ryan Field is a special event, where fans, students and alumni come together to cheer on the Wildcats with cheers like "Go U, NU!" and growling with the marching band to throw of the opposing teams. There is no atmosphere in sports quite like a Saturday in college football, so grab tickets to be a part of something special at Ryan Field, the home of the Northwestern Wildcats.

Northwestern Wildcats Football Fans

The fans of the Northwestern Wildcats love to see their team take on their conference foes, and for good reason. For decades, the Big 10 has been one of the top college football conferences in the country and only became more feared when they added some new teams in 2011. Realigned into two divisions, the Legends and Leaders, based on their geographic locations and time zones. Beginning in 2014, the University of Maryland and Rutgers University will be added to the Big 10, adding two more great football programs to the conference. The Big 10 also boasts strength in academics as well as athletics, with all but two schools being known as a part of the "Public Ivies." Big 10 student athletes are on the top of their game in the classrooms and on the field. This strong group of football teams are always in competition with the best school from any other conference, with multiple teams often ranked in the Top 25.
