Old Crow Medicine Show Background
Originally forming in 1998, Old Crow Medicine Show is a unique
band that showcases their musical talent with a penchant for old-time sounding music utilizing instruments such as the accordion,
harmonica, guitjo, banjo, fiddle, mandolin, and more in what is described as a "folk-bluegrass-alt-country blend." Once recruiting
most of the members of the group they began busking, playing for free where they can, while working on their sound as well
as original work. After catching a lucky break and performing at prestigious events such as Grand Ole Opry, the group signed
with a label and released their self-titled debut album in 2004.
Once the album was a huge success, garnering praise
from fans and critics alike for their unique style that showcases their incredible talent, they followed this up with "Big
Iron World" in 2006, which was also received well, charting on more charts than ever before. They have since released "Tennessee
Pusher" and "Carry Me Back", both of which carry the tradition of good music that distinguishes itself among the rabble of
generic work flooding the music scene. These days, Old Crow Medicine Show continues to tour the country and put together great
music that has brought them a wide fan base that only seems to grow from show to show.
was after getting a first big break that they moved to Nashville that the group was invited out to perform at the Grand Ole
Opry, an illustrious venue that has had a great many performances of famous musicians in varying genres. While only given
a stage time of four minutes, the band decided to jam out their song "Tear It Down" and were given a standing ovation as well
as calls for an encore. This is likely the biggest break out from near-anonymous to stellar band, but they received the most
recognition and mainstream press for their self-titled debut album (often given the acronym O.C.M.S.) when it was released
in 2003. From there, it was pretty clear that this wasn't just your average bluegrass band.
Old Crow Medicine
Did you know that one of the major influences for Old Crow Medicine Show was Bob Dylan?
mostly played to a different overall genre, the folk influence can be felt deep in Old Crow Medicine Show, mostly thanks to
band member Ketch Secor, who is a professed Dylan disciple of sorts. With Dylan's influence at the heart of the tune, Old
Crow would break out and go their own way, creating a brand new type of musical style that still wins them plenty of fans
from show stop to show stop.
There has never been a better time to head out to a great
concert loaded with moments that you'll be talking about well after it's over. Sure, there are plenty of ways to listen to
music these days, but it's a completely different experience to actually be there so you can feel the pulse of the crowd and
watch your favorite musicians take the stage for an unforgettable concert experience – and that definitely holds true
when it's a talented bluegrass band like Old Crow Medicine Show. This band knows a things or two about lighting up a live
audience, making it always a good idea to put down the remote and head out for a night of music that will have you reaching
for the playlist as soon as you get home. The concert experience is nothing short of unbelievable, as any fan can attest,
but it's still something that you have to get immersed in if you want to truly appreciate.
