There's nothing like going out and catching a classic production by Puccini or Strauss, and if you live in Philly, then
the principal way of doing that is by getting opera
tickets to the Opera Company of Philadelphia. The company has been cultivating the arts in the City of Brotherly Love
since the '70s, as well as giving young artists the chance they need to develop their talents.
The Opera Company of Philadelphia's history can be traced back to 1975, when it was initially founded. Since its creation,
it has worked to bring both classic operas to Philly as well as to develop new operas, expanding the art form and pushing
its boundaries. In 2006, it brought the opera Margaret Garner to the stage, a major coup that earned the company a lot of
recognition. Its fame continues to grow.
Though there are two venues that host productions by the Opera Company of Philadelphia, the main one is the Academy of Music. The Academy is one of
Philadelphia's longest-standing icons to the performing arts, having been built in 1857. The other major venue that hosts
the opera company's productions is Perelman Theater.
