Orgone got together in the early 1990s, although the band didn't take its final form until around 1999. While they began as a backing band for hip-hop musicians, in 2001 the group released a cover of "Funky Nassau" by The Beginning of the End; (featuring vocalist Fanny Franklin) and due to the song's popularity, Franlkin was added as a full-time member, even though the majority of their music is instrumental. In 2007, the group released its second album, The Killion Floor, which featured "Funky Nassau" as well as covers of "Do Your Thing" by Isaac Hayes and "I Get Lifted" by Harry Wayne Casey of K.C. and the Sunshine Band. Thanks to their growing popularity, the band eventually landed an opening gig during a 2012 Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings tour.
