award winning music event is now celebrating its twenty-first year of awesomely eclectic artistry. The festival will once
again occupy the bucolic LeBreton Flats with another unforgettable lineup of top-tier performances across innumerable genres.
From Sam Roberts Band to Snoop Dogg (a.k.a. Snoop Lion), Lady Gaga to Jenny Lewis, this year's ten-day display has something
Located in Canada's beautiful and historic capital, the Ottawa Bluesfest is one of many attractions in
this friendly and culturally stimulating city. Visitors looking to make the most of their festival experience can seek out
a myriad of attractions such as the long-standing ByWard Market, the lively Casino du Lac-Leamy, or the multitude of museums
and galleries. Complemented by the city's rich culture, this festival will be the highlight of your summer.
the Ottawa Bluesfest
This year's Ottawa Bluesfest will rise to greater heights than ever before with an expected turnout
of more than a quarter of a million fans. The ten days of musical mastery will see over 120 artists scheduled to play across
six stages, plus special offsite performances at Casino Lac-Leamy. The twenty-first festival is sure to be the biggest and
best Bluesfest so far.
The 2014 lineup is studded with big names and is alive with budding talent. Established luminaries
include slick alt rockers The Killers, freewheeling country heartthrob Blake Shelton, and the ever-mesmerizing Queens of the
Stone Age. Famed rock n' rollers Journey will also be in attendance. Apart from Shelton, country fans will get their fix with
Lady Antebellum and The Band Perry. Representing the finest in electro is Germany's Zedd, and Trombone Shorty & Orleans
Avenue brings the best in brassy funk and jazz. Rounding out the headliners are RL Grime, AWOLNATION, Phantogram, Young the
Giant, Gary Clark Jr., Third Eye Blind, and signature Canadian artists Barenaked Ladies and Tegan and Sara.
Up and coming
artists to watch include festival Director's Picks such as Nashville guitar slinger Shane Dwight, Zeppelin-influenced The
London Souls, bluesy singer-songwriter Matt Andersen, the seriously funky Black Joe Lewis, retro rockers Vintage Trouble,
and the conservatory-trained, garage-hardened No BS! Brass Band. These recommendations barely scratch the surface of the Ottawa
Bluesfest's musical offerings, which practically guarantees every festival-goer a beloved band or a new favorite.
The Ottawa Bluesfest has been wildly popular since its inception in 1994, which drew an audience of five thousand.
By 2007, the Bluesfest was known for featuring world-class talent and pulled in a record of almost 300,000 music lovers. The
Globe and Mail bestowed high praise on the eclectic lineup that ranged from Blue Rodeo to the White Stripes to Buddy Guy,
confidently declaring the festival had "raised the bar this year, and they'll do it again next year. Bet on it." The crowd
continues to flow in at around the quarter-million mark every year.
Last year's twentieth anniversary festival was marked
by performances from musical heavyweights RUSH, The Dixie Chicks, Wu-Tang Clan, FUN, and the renowned blues legend B.B. King
himself. The festival ended with the explosive Skrillex and his compatriots Boys Noize and their Blood Dog endeavor.
2001, the Bluesfest has garnered no less than twenty-three awards from various distinguished and popular institutions, such
as the International Festival and Events Association, the Ontario Arts Council, the Ottawa Xpress' Readers Choice Awards,
and the Blues Foundation of Memphis, Tennessee.
These days, Bluesfest is looking pretty green.
The implementation of a waste reduction program that includes patrolled bicycle parking, compost-friendly corn-based beer
cups, and generators run on bio-diesel would, in 2006 and 2007, earn the festival two Gold Awards for Waste Minimization from
the Recycling Council of Ontario.
