Oklahoma Sooners Football Schedule

Norman, Oklahoma is a mecca for college football and anyone would be hard-pressed to find a city as devoted to its hometown team as residents of Norman are to the Oklahoma Sooners. The program has long been recognized not only as one of the best in the Big 12 but as one of the best in all of college football. In 2013 the Sooners finished a game behind Baylor for second place in the Big 12 and you can be sure Oklahoma will be pulling out all the stops to end up on top of the conference once again. Spring ball provided plenty of reasons for OU fans to be optimistic entering the season. The defensive line proved to be a stand out group and should be able to wreak havoc on any offense it faces in 2014. Quarterback Trevor Knight also performed well and signaled that in 2014 Oklahoma fans will see more of the player who threw for well over 300 yards in the Sugar Bowl, rather than the one who struggled a bit at times throughout his sophomore year. The return of wide receiver Sterling Shepard will give Knight an excellent target and the two should combine for some big, possibly game-changing plays, throughout the year. The Sooners will have their work cut out for them as they make their way through a daunting Big 12 schedule that includes games against Baylor, Texas, Oklahoma State, and more.

One of the biggest games of the year will take place on October 11th when the Oklahoma Sooners and the Texas Longhorns battle one another at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas, Texas in a renewal of the Red River Rivalry. The Longhorns are one of the Sooners' biggest rivals but this game is much more than that as it will have huge implications on the Big 12 standings. The first home Big 12 game for the Sooners is on the following weekend on the 18th when the Kansas State Wildcats come to Memorial Stadium. This is yet another huge game if the Sooners plan on taking that next step towards a conference championship. The final game at Memorial Stadium in 2014 will be in December against their most bitter rival the Oklahoma State Cowboys. It is always a big deal when Oklahoma plays Oklahoma State and last year the two teams finished with identical conference records so this could be an even bigger rivalry game than it has been in years past. Oklahoma will also face off against Baylor, Louisiana Tech, Tennessee, and Kansas at Memorial Stadium this year. With plenty of big games on the schedule all you have to do is pick out the ones you want to see and get tickets from StubHub to show the Sooners your support.

The Team

Bob Stoops is one of the most revered coaches in all of college football and you can be sure that he will have all of his players fired up to get out and win a Big 12 championship in 2014. The strength of this year's team appears to be on the defensive side of the ball where the Sooners' defensive line should be dominant. Of course, this is not to discount the offense which will be led by returning starting QB Trevor Knight who could be on the verge of a breakout season. 2014 could be a memorable year for the Sooners and you will want to be a part of it at Memorial Stadium right from the opening kickoff.

The Experience

In Norman, Sooners football is everything and heading out to a big game at memorial Stadium is one of the most thrilling experiences in all of college football. Cheering for your favorite school or alma mater and watching the talented student athletes put it all on the line for school pride and a shot at playing at the next level is one of the most intense experiences in all of sports. College football fans organize their entire Saturday to celebrate everything that comes with the game. These hard core fans get up early and head off to the stadium parking lot for tailgating before the game. Once inside the stadium, fans join together to make as much noise as possible and help the home team leave with a victory. It is incredibly thrilling to be in the crowd when the star player takes the ball into the end zone for a big win. When you head out for an Oklahoma Sooners football game you are guaranteed to experience all of the excitement that comes with a top tier college football game. The parking lot at Memorial Stadium will be filled with people gearing up for the big game, grilling up some grub and sipping on a few beverages as well. It is all one big lead up to the main event, which is, of course, the game itself. There is simply no better way to spend a day off than at a college football game cheering and celebrating with thousands of other hard core fans.

Oklahoma Sooners Big 12 Football

The Sooners play in the Big 12 Conference, a traditional football powerhouse that annually features some of the most exciting games in all of the sport. The first Big 12 conference football game took place in 1996 and since 2012 it has played a nine game round-robin style regular season which determines a champion rather than using a championship game as some other conferences do. The traditional powerhouses in the conference include Baylor, Oklahoma, Texas, Oklahoma State, and Kansas State but every team in the conference is solid and capable of knocking off any other team. Baylor begin the 2014 season as the defending champs but this season should be as close of a battle as last year's was and anyone could end up on top of the conference standings.

The Sooners are one of the most storied programs in all of college football and have earned 10 unclaimed national titles along with seven claimed, the most recent being in 2000. In 2010 the Sooners became only the sixth team in NCAA football history to reach 800 wins with a victory over the Utah Utes.
