Palace of Fine Arts History

Palace of Fine Arts has been a San Francisco favorite since it first was constructed in 1915. It was originally part of the Panama-Pacific Exhibition and is one of the few remaining buildings created for that event, which celebrated the completion of the Panama Canal. The venue underwent a major renovation in 1965 including the installation of the surrounding lagoon and was also retrofit for earthquake safety in 2009. Big time concerts and comedy performances are regular events at this historic building, but be forewarned you may get distracted by the beauty of the architecture as well as the surrounding area when you are attending a show at Palace of Fine Arts.
