Panda Bear Background
Although Noah Lennox is currently based out of Lisbon,
Portugal, he spent his childhood growing up on the East Coast. He was always a very active child, as he was interested in
everything from sports to arts and drawing. Lennox started playing the piano at a very young age, although he stopped by the
time he was eight and switched to learn how to play the cello. His passion for music also led him to become a tenor in his
high school's chamber choir. After high school, Lennox attended Boston University to study Religion because of his fascination
with the concept of God despite the fact that he had never been very religious.
Lennox and his longtime friends Josh
Dibb (Deakin), David Portner (Avey Tare), and Brian Weitz (Geologist) have shared a love for music ever since childhood. In
2000, the four aspiring musicians decided to move to New York and start pursuing a career in music together. The group decided
to call their new venture "Animal Collective", which specialized in neo-psychedelica and experimental music. Although Lennox
is an integral member of Animal Collective, he has always pursued his solo projects in addition to working with the band.
His first works as Panda Bear began in 1999, when his self-titled debut album was released on Soccer Star Records. Even while
he toured and produced music with Animal Collective, Lennox was always working on his own personal projects, such as his albums
Young Prayer (2004) and Person Pitch (2007). His music has been highly acclaimed by both music critics and fans, and he has
become one of the most interesting and dynamic forces in the indie music scene.
