Built in 1913, the Winnipeg Pantages Theatre raised the curtain officially in February 1914. Embracing the heyday of vaudeville,
the Pantages Theatre hosted six original acts weekly. A typical lineup would include a song-and-dance team, an animal act,
a comedy skit, a juggler, a novelty of some kind and a short film. The theater was specifically designed to accommodate changing
audiences in record time. Between the main floor and the balcony there is a mezzanine that serves this function. Originally,
this was a tea room for patrons waiting for the next show. At the front of the balcony is a special seating section, dubbed
as the diamond horseshoe. Taking a cue from New York's Metropolitan Opera House, this was an area where well-to-do women could
sit and show off their jewelry. To learn more about this venue and other Canadian premiere venues, such as, MTS Centre, visit StubHub! StubHub offers detailed venue information

The Pantages Playhouse Theatre enjoyed immense popularity until June 1923. During this time, the Pantages Theatre hosted
the best and worst of vaudeville acts, which included Laurel and Hardy, Buster Keaton, Houdini and Felix and the Mind Reading
Duck. Almost two months later in October of 1923, the Pantages was renamed the Playhouse and featured live theater productions
but reverted back to vaudeville, motion pictures and tabloid musicals. Throughout the 1930s and 1940s, the Playhouse featured
concerts, classical musicians and ballet. Amateur theater found its way to the building in 1948, and from that time until
the mid-1950s, the Playhouse was the site for many productions. Today Pantages
Playhouse Theatre is one of the few remaining theaters representing the turn of the century in North America still left
