Like many country greats that came before them, Parmalee comes from humble beginnings. When the band came to Nashville to build their dream of making it as a country band, they met David Fanning of New Voice Entertainment at Sound Stage Studios. That fateful meeting led Parmalee and David to record their hit Musta Had a Good Time. What's remarkable about that song and recording was it was done in the back of the band's RV. Yet it was from that happenstance meeting with David and their impromptu recording that began Parmalee's meteoric rise to the top, their production and record deals and an army of fans.
Not even a botched robbery that turned nearly fatal could keep Parmalee down. After a 2010 performance in the band's native North Carolina, Matt and Scott Thomas were loading up their equipment in the band's RV when two gunmen surprised them from behind and demanded money. Possessing a concealed firearms license and carrying, Scott turned and fired, killing one of the gunmen but was hit by three bullets in the melee, one striking her femoral artery, a fatal wound in almost any situation. But with a lot of luck and prayer and medical miracles, Scott pulled through and is now back onstage and stronger than ever, helping his band continue to make awesome country hits!
So widely beloved and respected is Parmalee that when Scott Thomas suffered a near fatal gunshot wound and was hospitalized for 35 days in recovery, donations from fans, the country music community and fellow country stars poured in. All of Scott's medical costs were covered and then some thanks to the generous support of Parmalee's dedicated fans and admirers, a clear indicator of just how cherished the band is. Now Parmalee is out on tour giving thanks to their fans who helped so lovingly in the band's time of need.
