is a tight knit outfit made up of four performers. Brothers Matt Thomas and Scott Thomas make up half the band, performing
on lead vocals/guitar and drums, respectively. The band is rounded out by cousin Barry Knox enthusiastically slapping the
bass while longtime friend Josh McSwain jams the guitar. All the members of Parmalee had music affect them deeply throughout
their childhood - the brothers Thomas would spend part of their childhood watching, and even at times performing, in father
Jerry Thomas' popular blues band. Growing up alongside them, Barry Knox would take his first foray into performing the same
way countless other country stars had - playing Sundays at the local church. Josh McSwain would hail from similar roots, with
he too playing in a local bluegrass band alongside his father.
Parmalee would form organically, after many long years
of the young band members experiencing the local tour circuit with their fathers. After years of practice Matt Thomas would
get his first shot in performing at a gig in a crowded club in his father's band. After putting on the show of a lifetime,
Scott Thomas and Barry Knox would also join and the earliest real incarnation of Parmalee, then known as "The Thomas Brothers
Band". By 2001 the band would pick-up Josh McSwain and this would be the official formation of Parmalee.
The band would
derive their name from the town they all grew up in - Parmele, North Carolina. After gaining significant momentum on the regional
tour scene, the band would catapult themselves across the country and into the musical meccas of Los Angeles and New York
City seeking fame, fortune, and inspiration. Eventually the bound found themselves in the epicenter of country music in Nashville,
Tennessee. They would live, eat, and breath Nashville, meeting some of the hottest names in the music scene including future
mentor David Fanning. This would eventually lead to their first label signing in 2011 with Stone Creek Records, and one full
length album and tons of hit singles later Parmalee is showing no signs of slowing down or looking back.
The band's first breakout hit came after recording sessions in Nashville, where they recorded "Musta Had a Good
Time" while the band lived out of an RV that doubled as home and studio. The track would be a huge hit over the XM radio waves,
and make a respectable showing on the country Top 40 list. Billboard, MTV, and the American Country Awards all took notice
of Parmalee inviting them to performances and showering them with accolades.
The band's first mainstream full length,
Feels Like Carolina, would also feature the bands next hit single and one of the biggest country hits of all time, "Carolina".
"Carolina" would top charts across the country, including #1 positions across a multitude of listings. The single would go
gold, making it one of Parmalee's most successful singles to date. The band's third single, "Close Your Eyes", would again
chart across the board, making it the third consecutive hit single for the band. Feels Like Carolina would be a huge commercial
and critical success, hitting #10 on the US Country charts and getting as high as #5 on the US Indie charts.
band went through a hugely traumatic experience in 2010, when an attempted robbery turned ugly and Scott Thomas was almost
killed in a gunfight. The would be robber would be killed and Scott Thomas would come within inches of dying, with his heart
stopping multiple times and him suffering heavy blood loss. By a miracle Scott survived, and less than a year later he was
back behind the drum kit playing the Parmalee show that would land the band their deal with Stoney Creek Records. During the
shooting, Thomas was shot a total of three times.
