2014 Gobowling.com 400 Trivia
Did you know that Bill Elliott once went 13
years in between wins?
After winning three times in the 1980s, Elliott struggled to get it going in the 1990s, though
he retook his crown by taking down the Miller 500 (as it was then called) in 2002, giving him the all-time lead with four
different wins at this Pocono event. Elliott is also the only driver to win back-to-back checkered flags at the Gobowling.com
400, which is a feat that he accomplished in 1988 and 1989.
2014 Gobowling.com 400 Spectator Experience
to the enormous capacity, the unbelievable field of talented racers and a scope that you'll have to see for yourself to have
a chance of understanding, NASCAR events, particularly when they go down at Pocono, tend to be as followed as any other sporting
event you're going to find anywhere. NASCAR races aren't just sports anyway, as they're really cultural events with significance
passed down from generation to generation. Though the drivers are great and the main reason fans turn up to see the action,
the atmosphere in the stands is equally as important when it comes to capturing why NASCAR remains one of the most electrifying
spectator sports in the world.
Perhaps more than any other sport, NASCAR is a sport that simply needs to be experienced
live and in person to truly appreciate it, as a big-time spectator sport like this one gets taken to a completely different
level when you get to actually participate in the action. Sure, high-def TVs are great, sort of, but the Pocono Raceway atmosphere
gives you a different level of experience that you simply can't recreate through that disappointing little flatscreen in your
living room. Instead, the better play is to actually head out and get knee-deep in the NASCAR culture during a great race
that you'll be thinking about well after the checkered flag comes out.
