You don't need to go far in Philly in order to run into history. In fact, you can find it right when you stop in at its waterfront. The Navy Yard sprawls across the Philly waterfront, on an area of land that spans seven miles and borders both the Delaware and the Schuylkill Rivers. The Navy Yard's founding can be traced back to the Continental Congress, which leased land along Philadelphia's Front Street docks. That helped develop the nascent country's first navy. Around the days of the Civil War, the Navy Yard was relocated to where it can be found today. The U.S. Navy closed the yard in 1995, but it continued to develop as retail space.
