Philadelphia Union Schedule

The Philadelphia Union are concluding their sixth season in the MLS and have quickly established themselves as a force to reckoned with in the Eastern Conference. They currently sit in seventh place in the conference with a few games remaining on the schedule that could greatly improve their positioning for the playoffs. Soccer has seen a big rise in popularity following the World Cup this past summer and this season has been one of the most highly attended yet for the MLS. The Philadelphia Union are currently battling for a playoff spot and sit just behind Toronto FC while trying to fend off the Houston Dynamo and the Chicago Fire. The Union have two more home games at PPL Park in Chester, Pennsylvania before the end of the regular season, the first of which which will be against the Columbus Crew on Saturday, October 11th with kickoff slated for :00 PM. The Columbus Crew are just a few spots ahead of the Union in the Eastern Conference standings and a win against them could give the Union some serious momentum as they head into the playoffs. The last home game of the regular season is on October 18th against Sporting Kansas City and is a great way to celebrate the terrific season the Union have had and to give them a big send off as they get ready to embark on their quest to bring home their first MLS Cup. StubHub is the place to go for tickets to this game as well as every big Philadelphia Union game.

Philadelphia Union Major League Soccer

The Philadelphia Union play in the MLS, or Major League Soccer, which is the premiere soccer league in the United States and Canada and is also a member of CONCACAF. Nineteen teams in the league compete during the regular season which begins each March hoping to earn a spot in the postseason. Each team plays thirty four regular season games with the regular season champion being awarded the Supporters' Shield. The top ten teams advance to the playoffs with the last two teams playing in the MLS Cup in December. The first season of the MLS was in 1996 with ten charter members of which the Columbus Crew was one. Plans for establishing the league began as far back as 1988 when U.S. Soccer made an agreement with FIFA to have plans to get a Division I professional soccer league in place in order to be allowed to host the 1994 World Cup. The league is granted a spot for three American teams in the CONCACAF Champions League while another team has the chance to qualify via the U.S. Open Cup. Year after year MLS gains more fans and it stands as one of the five major professional sports leagues in the United States and Canada.

The team's name Union is a reference to the original thirteen colonies' union of which Philadelphia served as the first capital.
