Phillip Phillips Background
Phillip Phillips, born Phillip LaDon Phillips, Jr., was
born and raised in Georgia. Growing up, he always loved performing and playing music. He picked up the guitar when he was
14, and formed his own band when he was just out of high school. His band, called the Phillip Phillips band, performed at
local events and venues throughout Georgia. In 2010, Phillips even won a regional singing competition, "Albany Star", and
had started to accrue a loyal local following.
After years of honing his musical voice, which he describes as "jazz
and rock alternative sound", Phillips decided to audition for American Idol, so he headed to Savannah, Georgia and stepped
in front of the judges to perform. After singing "Superstition" by Stevie Wonder, the judges asked him to perform another
song, this time accompanied by his guitar. He chose the song "Thriller" by Michael Jackson, and instantly impressed the judges,
who sent him on to the Hollywood rounds of auditions. Round after round, Phillips continued to wow the judges and the voters
at home, so he continued to advance in the competition.
Phillips hit a rocky patch during the competition, due to possible
kidney stones. He had a total of eight procedures during his time on American Idol, and even though he contemplated quitting
the competition because of the pain, he persevered and made it all the way to the final round, when he found out that he won.
The last song he sang on American Idol was his coronation song, "Home", which became the highest selling coronation song on
American Idol to date. After winning American Idol, Phillips embarked on the American Idol 2011 tour, and he started to work
on his own music. Phillips has already sold millions of copies of his songs all over the world, and has also performed at
countless sold-out venues on his handful of tours. Now you have the opportunity to see this incredible talent perform live
